About Doug

"I grew up in Smithsburg, I am an Eagle Scout and now I am the Boy Scout
Tuscarora District Training Chair for Mason Dixon Council.  I have lived
in Waynesboro since 1994.  I have a wife, Dianna, and one son, Benjamin.

I was certified as a YMCA Diver Bronze Star in 1976 at the Hagerstown
YMCA by George Knode.  I just turned 13 Years old, at the time I was the
youngest YMCA Diver in Hagerstown.  Received my Silver Star just one
year later.  I joined the US Navy and went into the Submarine Service
and served aboard the USS Nathanael Greene (SSBN- 636) Blue and Gold
Crews, I was certified as Navy Diver while I was between assignments
with the USS Nathanael Greene Blue crew and Gold Crew. I decommissioned
her and then taught at the Damneck Naval Guided Missile School for 6
years teaching underwater navigation to Enlisted and Prospective
Navigation Officers, Prospective Commanding Officers, and performed
DASO's (Live and simulated missile firings at Cape Canaveral.)  I went
to my second boat the USS John Marshall (SSN-611) after my shore duty.
I decommissioned her in Bremerton WA in 1992.  I retired from the US
Navy after decommissioning the Marshall.  I have over 1000 dives under
my belt, mostly in the Atlantic but, some in the Med.  I stopped diving
after retiring and I did not dive again until my son wanted to learn to
dive in 2007.

Now I am back in the only place to be, underwater!  I would rather be
there than anywhere else.  You never stop seeing something new.  Diving
is the most fun there is on this planet!"

Doug
